Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar

(a 95/5 blend) Vivid ruby color. Youthful blackberry and cracked pepper aromas open up with air to reveal incense and smoky minerals. Primary and a bit tight today, offering tangy dark berry skin flavors and lightly gripping tannins. There's clearly very good material here, but it needs some time to put some flesh on its bones. Frankland Estate was established in1988 by Barrie Smith and Judi Cullam. They are now assisted by their daughter Elizabeth Smith, son Hunter Smith and a small, hardworking team who enjoy the diverse and idiosyncratic challenges associated with working in a family business.

They have done amazing things in such a short period of time. From the outset, they wanted to produce wines that were not the “Aussie” norm, and more a reflection of this unique property. Elegant and well defined fruit flavors, and complex secondary characters, rather than just weight and power, is what they have always strived for. Their wines exhibit wonderful aromatics, great elegance and a magical earthy/dusty terroir character.
Rocky Gully range of wines is sourced from other growers in the Frankland River region who share commitment to sustainable agriculture and high quality fruit.

The Frankland River region is almost completely free of wine pests and diseases. Its isolated location, far from population and industrial centres, mean it is virtually pollution free and offers a pristine grape-growing environment. The winemaking philosophies at Frankland Estate reflect these influences as well as the hard-earned lessons gained from some 17 vintages in the Frankland River region. The Frankland River is a river in the great southern region of Western Australia. The Frankland River is the largest river by volume in the region and the eighth largest in the state.
