Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2007 Latria is a blend of 50% Garnacha and 50% Carinena aged in oak. Cedar, Asian spices, incense, blackberry, and plum aromas inform the nose of this dense, sweetly-fruited, forward red. It is an excellent value meant for drinking over the next 6-7 years. The average age of Celler Malondro’s vines is 40 years and among the most elevated in the Montsant DO.(Jay Miller) 89pts

Celler Malondro is a family run small winery established in 2000. Located in Cornudella de Montsant below the Montsant range and the Prades mountains, this small cellar produces uniquely flavoured wines from grapes of old vines with an average age above 40 years.

Cornudella de Montsant has a continental climate with light mediterranean influences. Winter is cold with the lowest temperatures at -11⁰C whilst the highest temperature at 12⁰C. It hails frequently in winter and snows three to four times. In contrast to the cold wet winter, summer here is hot with the maximum temperature reaching 38⁰C in July and August. Summer here also features cold nights at 8~10⁰C, when the grapes can “chillax”.
Being the highest vineyards in the D.O. Montsant, vegetative cycle is delayed. Bud burst occurs late, normally in middle of April. September comes with possible torrential rain and the weather becomes cold. Middle of October is the harvest time. The wines are made using low temperature fermentation (14~16⁰C), half of them are barrel fermented while another half in stainless steel.

“Latria” red wines are made of grapes from controlled vineyards in the area, which we prune and pick. These wines are then fermented in our old barrels for about 6 months. “Malondro Montsant” Red Wine is made primarily with our own grapes 50% Garnacha and 50% Carinena from the oldest vine plots.
