“Tiny yields, ripe grapes, delicate vinification done at low temperature to reveal the fruit, Domaine de la Chique is a modern wine, dense and fragrant to be drunk now, at 60° F. Blending finesse, power and generosity.” (Herve Bizeul)

  • Wine analysis: Grenache 50%, Syrah 20%, Carignan 30%;
  • 14.5 % alcohol

The renaissance of Roussillon, or perhaps simply its “discovery” in contemporary times is a very exciting phenomenon. It is a quite unique “terroir”,
distinct from its neighbour Langedoc or its “soul brother” the Rhone.

This unique mediterrean region owes much of its new found “high profile” to folks such as Herve and Claudine. Their primary focus has of course been the
critically acclaimed wines of Clos des Fees. But Herve’s knowledge and understanding of the area lead him to Domaine de la Chique, an Estate just 15 minutes drive from their home in Vingrau.

The Estate had been in some neglect over the last few years, but Herve knew its heritage and more importantly its potential and saved it from the vines being pulled out in 2007.
The 40 Hectares of olive grove at Domaine De La Chique, planted in contour lines, protect a unique vineyard on remarkable site. On arid soil made of pebbles, the roots from old vines of Syrah, Grenache and carignan dig deeply in the clay and under the sun of the Roussillon,produces a wine with deep colour, rich flavor and aromas of exceptional ripe fruit.

This is a true “eco-system” where the two main Mediterranean crops coexist in harmony, Vines and Olives. Domaine de la Chique was for a long time the largest olive grove of France.Tiny yields, ripe grapes, delicate vinification done at low temperature to reveal the fruit, Domaine de la Chique is a modern wine, dense and fragrant, with finesse, power and generosity. Designed to drink now. For now it is just one wine. A beautifully simple yet compelling proposition.
