Importer John Larchet initiated Old Faithful as a joint venturewithfour old-vine growers in McLaren Vale - Nick Haselgrove, Warren Randall, Warren Ward and Andrew Fletcher. This win, sourced from vines planted in the 1940s, is named for the northern exposures that catch the sun down under. It’s a complex mesh of dark cherry and raspberry fruit with spice and chocolate. The 2005 Grenache “Northern Exposure” offers a generous bouquet of scorched earth, kirsch, strawberry, and black raspberry. Full-bodied, it has excellent breadth and depth, succulent flavors, and a long, savory finish. There is enough structure to support 3-5 years of further development and it should drink well through 2022. The Old Faithful is a brand 50% owned by importer John Larchet, designed to express the quality of McLaren Vale fruit. Each cuvee is made in 300 case lots. 2005 is a great vintage in McLaren Vale and these wines support that conclusion. Author: Jay Miller
