Detail
Las Alturas is fittingly named. The vineyard is Spanish for the heights and is one of the highest elevation vineyards in Santa Lucia at 1200 feet. This altitude intensifies the sunlight causing the vines to produce smaller berries with thicker skins, intensifying their flavor and mouthfeel in the finished wine. The wine showcases sun-dried cherry and plum on the nose, with plush black and blue fruit compote, cola, and white pepper, and toasted oak rounding it out on the palate. This is an intense and powerful Pinot Noir. Pairs well with winter squash casserole or roasted duck with cherries and red wine vinegar, and cheeses like Dorothys Keep Dreaming and mild blue cheeses.
