Detail
If you’re new to the exciting wines of South Africa or looking to branch out from your usual Stellenbosch go-to, Essay by Elite wines packs some serious winemaking behind a tiny price tag. The Chenin Blanc and Viognier grapes come from dry-land, bush-vine vineyards grown on shale soils in the Agter-Paarl region. The shale soils produce grapes with good minerality coupled with fresh fruitiness on the palate. The wine is made only using the free run juice, the freshest and most expressive. The wine is fermented at low temperatures to retain the precise nature of these hand harvested grapes. Some time spent aging on the lees develops more mid palate weight and makes the wine more textural. 66% Chenin Blanc, 25% Viognier, 9% Roussanne. This wine shows typical Chenin Blanc aromas of pineapple, litchi, and guava. The addition of Viognier and Roussanne adds complexity with each component contributing its distinctive characteristics to the blend, bringing out hints of pear and melon. Fresh finish.
