Profile
Vega Moragona Estate

Vega Moragona is the flagship brand of Bodegas La Magdalena which was founded back in 1958. The partners now own between them some 1600 hectares of very high quality vineyards with many home to 80 year old vines. The DO of Ribera del Jucar only dates back to 2003 when its uniqueness prompted it to be recognised as separate from the larger DO of La Mancha.
Ribera del Jucar ’s climate is different, with more Mediterranean influences, a higher annual rainfall, and soils that are more limestone and sandstone dominant. It is also overwhelmingly a red wine producing region, with Tempranillo (known locally as Cencibel) as the dominant variety It seems particularly well suited to the terroir. Interestingly the permitted yield is 12% lower than La Mancha, and certainly is a key factor in quality. The great appeal is the highly perfumed nature of the wines. They are rich and intense yet display a wonderful elegance.
